Dakota Johnson???s stylist Kate Young talks us through her Fifty Shades Darker tour wardrobe

Dakota Johnson is doing the red carpet rounds, promoting her new film FiftyShades Darker in London, Madrid, Hamburg and Los Angeles in the last week alone.And such an intense schedule of high profile appearances, naturallyrequires a perfectly executed wardrobe of outfits, pitched for each different occasion and audience.

Enter stylist Kate Young, who has worked with the actress for several years now, as well as a whole roster of Hollywood A-listers including Sienna Miller, Natalie Portman and Selena Gomez.Young started her career as the assistant to American Vogue Editor Anna Wintour and has risen through the industry to be crowned the world???s most powerful stylist by The Hollywood Reporter - twice.

???I tend to like things that are simple or way over-the-top,???Young reveals of the tactics she???s employed for Dakota???s current tour wardrobe, which has seen her switch pace between minimalist Valentino slip dresses and maximalist, all-frills Gucci in the last few days.???Things in the middle are a little boring to me.???

Acknowledging that Gucci is a favourite label in the pair???s repertoire at the moment, Young says she always has to consider whether the label???s never-knowingly-understated aesthetic may be too much for her client, before getting carried away with the dream dresses.???It"s so great [that Dakota is a fan of Gucci] because I also love Gucci so much.We just try things and see how they look, it"s a balance.Some pieces overwhelm her, but most are great.???

Dakota???s look at the London premiere of FiftyShades Darker last night honoured home-turf designer Alexander McQueen; a tactic that the stylist will frequently employ when embarking on a global press tour.Pacing brands and silhouettes, she says, are an important part of the process, but ultimately knowing what suits her client???s personality and figure is what leads the decision.???Dakota has a great body and she"s confident,??? she concludes, ???so it"s always more about her than the dresses.???

One thing that the stylist never does though, she says, is allow Dakota???s Fifty Shades character, the protagonist Anastasia Steele, influence the star???s wardrobe in real life.

???The FiftyShades film doesn???t influence our choices,??? she says.???The two of us have gotten to know each other better, but she"s always kind of had the same style and she knows what works.The goal is to always have Dakota look like Dakota.???
