LIBERTY ROSS has spoken for the first time about the break up of her marriage, describing it as "really the worst" time of her life.The model and actress saw her marriage breakdown played out in public after her husband, director Rupert Sanders, was pictured embracing actress Kristen Stewart, who was at the time in a relationship with her Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson.

"I have no words to describe what we went through," Ross said."But I think, for me, something always has to completely die for there to be a rebirth.And, for me, I feel like I'm going through a rebirth."

The Vogue cover girl - whose 16-year relationship with Sanders produced two children - talked candidly about her efforts to rescue the marriage, despite intense press scrutiny of her actions following Sanders' betrayal.

"'I just visualised being this sort of Maasai warrior," she told December's Vanity Fair."I was just going to stand very still and very strong, and just let it roll past me.I tried to keep as far away from it as I could and to understand that this is my family and it's the most precious thing to me."

The relationship subsequently ended and, after filing for divorce in December of this year, Ross said she has begun to accept this new phase of her life.

"It's been very strange for me because my parents have been together for 50 years, so divorce is something I never, ever thought I would do," she said."I'm not a quitter.I've done everything I could to be the perfect wife and mother and really support my husband.But I didn't have any more to give, you know?"
