Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams might only be 18, but she is alreadyone of the freshestnew fashion stars on the red carpet.Remember, this is an actress who once went to an awards show in a dress covered in tiny wrestlers.
At last night"s premiere of theThe Devil and the Deep Blue Seaat the Tribeca Film Festival she wore a strapless blue gown by under-the-radar Manchester-based label Zeynep Kartal.Earlier this week at theGame of Thronesseason 6Los Angeles premiere, Williams matched her GoT manicure to herEmilio de la Morena outfit - a classic example of the actor"s tendency tochampion of young, upcoming design talent.
"I always keep an eye out on new designers.I"m not a brand snob;if a dress works, it works irrelevant of the brand.Often we get tagged on things on Instagram, and it"ll be something I haven"t noticed before, and so we"ll go with that," her stylist Harriet Byczokexplains to The Telegraph of how they choose their looks."I stumbled upon Sadie Williams, which she wore to the Empire Awards,on Instagram, and I fell in love with the outfit.I am always looking to Instagram for my inspiration, and follow a lot of brands and designers,so it"s a great source for style inspiration for Maisie."
As for their approach to the red carpet, she says:"Wealways try to find something that reflects Maisie"s personality. She"s a really cool girl and I think she"s never going to be a plain black dress kind of girl. With the red carpet, a lot of the dresses can look oldor often celebrities play it quite safe."
This week"sEmilio de la Morena look was influenced by thethe fact that the premiere took place in Los Angeles."With LA you need to be very glamorous, and in London you can be cooler," she explains."We wanted to stick to Maisie"s cool personal style, but make sure she"s in keeping with the glam LA look. With the crop top it looks a lot more fun, and the colours make it look a lot more young and quirky. But with the length and shape and hair and makeup it fits in with the LA requirements."
"We decided to have her hair down because it"s quite fleshy, and wanted the makeup to add a bit of colour," she continues."I like to use a lot of accessories, because they can stop a dress being just a dress and make it an outfit. But with this dress being a statement on its own we didn"t over accessorise, so used the makeup so it didn"t look plain."
Although you might assume that you have to be careful to remain age-appropriate whenstyling a teenager,Byczok says thather age actually makes it a little easieras Maisie is more willing to take a risk."When she was 16 she did have her own personal style and it"s developed," she tells The Telegraph."With 16-year-old"s it"s easier, because they know what they want to look like. When you"re older sometimes you"re a little more scared."
Being in a cult TV show such asGame of Thrones means that there is a huge fanbase watching - and commenting - on Maisie"s every move. But they don"t let her 2 million followers on Instagram influence her decisions, or stop her from wearing something divisive."Everybody is going to have an opinion," says Byczok."So the most important thing is that Maisie feels like herself. For me, comments that people say on Instagram are irrelevant."
