US toy manufacturer Mattel has been praised for its Moschino Barbie advert which features a young boy.
The advert, promoting the new toy which is a collaboration between the manufacturer and Italian fashion house Moschino, shows a blonde boy with a Mohawk showing off his new Barbie.
"Moschino Barbie is so fierce!" he says to the camera as he holds the doll"s purse.
People have taken to social media platforms like YouTube to express their admiration for the advert that pushes the norms of gender barriers.
One YouTube user wrote:""This almost made me cry!"I used to play with my sister"s Barbies and felt such shame afterwards.I"m so glad we can just let kids be kids."
Another YouTube user said they wished the advert was broadcast when they were growing up.
"This makes me so happy for the future generation and I hope it"ll catch on and destroy gender stereotypes when it comes to toys," they wrote online.
According to Vogue, the highly anticipated Moschino Barbie sold out less than an hour after it went on sale for $150 in the US last week.
The doll is dressed in Moschino"s standard slogan T-shirts and mesh knitwear, also with golden accessories.
In addition, the eight-piece collection, which features a pencil skirt, bomber jacket and lots of leather, has also been made available in adult-size versions.
