AZZARO has recruited two new creative directors.Designers Arnaud Maillard and Alvaro Castejón will unveil their debut pre-spring/summer 2014 collection for the label on July 5.The pair succeed former creative director Mathilde Castello, who stepped down after just one year in the role in October 2012.
Both have high-fashion backgrounds, with time at Karl Lagerfeld, Alexander McQueen, Oscar de la Renta and Fendi peppering their combined CV.The pair formed their own Madrid-based womenswear and bridal label, Alvarno, in 2009.
So what does this mean for Azzaro?Lots of colour, contrasting texture, dégradé fabrics and a "big change", by all accounts.Expect the "spirit of the Seventies" infused into cocktail dresses and eveningwear.
"You have to be respectful of the brand, of course, but what we're trying to do is interpret the Azzaro style with a new energy that adapts to our times," Castejón told WWD."There are no shiny materials in the collection - the shine is in the embroidery."
This will be an Azzaro that doesn't take itself too seriously.
"Not so much sexy as sensual," explained Maillard."For instance, a wild animal's clawed effect is embroidered on tulle is meant to make a man want to rip it off".
The duo's debut collection will be unveiled on July 5 at the Azzaro boutique in Paris.
